Generally consists of 3/4” thick edge-glued solid lumber strips, 2-1/2” wide or less, which run parallel to the face veneers for strength and freedom from warp. Panel edge can be shaped to resemble solid lumber.
Paxton’s veneer core in 3/4” is usually 7 ply. Weighs less than MDF or particleboard. Strong.
Fiberboard/MDF core is ground much more finely than flakeboard/particleboard core. Edges look more like wood; the core density makes it machine better than flakeboard/ particleboard.
An environmentally friendly idea. The two crossbands are high density Aspen particleboard, which saves on white fir veneers for core stock. Gives the strength and lightweight advantage of veneer core while providing a smooth surface for finishing, with no telegraphing of core stock veneers through the face veneers.
